Crater Studio
is an Animation, Film and Video Post-Production Studio established in 2005 and based in Belgrade. Crater Studio provides world class feature film visual effects and postproduction services thanks to the team of talented professionals, experienced in close work with directors and producers on a range of projects: feature films, music videos, commercials and animations.
We are looking for Compositing Artists, FX TD and Modeling Artist for a period of 3 to 6 months to join us on two feature film projects we have started working on.
Compositing Artists (Nuke)
Job Description
The main focus of the Compositing Artist is to integrate live-action, 3D and digital matte painting elements to create the final shot. Good knowledge of Nuke software is required.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Integrates 3D elements, digital imaging elements and thumbnails with no visible edges to create final shot.
- Performs all aspects of compositing.
- Creates coarse and precise alpha masks using roto software and removes rigs and wire elements using Nuke software or other Paint software.
- Works on blue/green screen extractions.
- Takes part in client reviews.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-5 years’ experience working experience in Nuke.
- Strong knowledge of Nuke.
- A good understanding of photographic principles, image processing techniques and CG Compositing techniques. A knowledge and interest in photography and practical lighting. Critical eye for detail.
- Excellent communication skills and good knowledge of English (verbal and written). Any other language is a plus.
- Be able to take notes and follow instructions and directions.
- Any other vfx skills are desirable (modeling, texturing, lighting, etc.).
- Love and understanding of photography, film and VFX.
- Demonstrable ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas.
- Able to take directions and adaptable to change.
- Good at improvising and problem-solving.
- Ability to work in a team environment under tight deadlines.
FX TD
Job Description
The FX TD artist takes 3D scenes from animators/matchmovers to create particles, rigid body, fluids, cloth, fur & hair simulations or similar using Houdini and any proprietary Method technology or third-party technology. They should be familiar with the latest techniques and technologies. The FX TD is also required to develop a deep understanding of our pipeline and work within it.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Produces tests and final renders of all FX elements for a shot.
- Creates work-in-progress quick-comps for internal review with Supervisors.
- Creates effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam, explosion, rigid body dynamics simulation, fluid, material and hair simulation.
- Applies lighting and shaders to produce the final rendered image or passes the simulations onto a Lighting department.
- Must follow the creative direction of the production communicated by his/her leads and supervisors.
- Will need to balance creative requests with the resources available.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-5 years’ experience as a FX TD.
- Strong knowledge of Houdini (including the use of the following programs: Mantra, VEX, Python and HScript), Maya (including Mel and Python), Realflow, Naiad, Nuke, Paint programs and Arnold.
- Tool building and scripting knowledge is advantage.
- Knowledge of Photoshop and other “dynamics” packages/tools is advantage.
- Good artistic skills.
- Some scripting skills an asset.
- Excellent communication skills and good knowledge of English (verbal and written). Any other language is a plus.

Modeling Artist
Job Description
The main focus of the Modeling Artist is to create photorealistic organic and hard surface models within Crater studio pipeline using commercial software and proprietary tools. The models may be organic in nature, such as various creatures or characters, or they may be hard surface models such as cars, buildings, props or sets. Modeling artists work very closely with other artists collaborating on the same model. He/She must be proficient in Maya software.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Create photorealistic organic and hard surface models.
- Performs all tasks related to the creation of photorealistic organic and hard surface (inorganic) models
- Works in Maya software and is responsible for UV layout.
- Takes part in client reviews.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-5 years’ experience as a Modeling Artist
- Excellent Maya polygon and subdivision surface modeling skills and the ability to apply and manage UV’s is essential.
- Texturing skills are advantageous
- Thorough understanding of the modeling process and the ability to both interpret designs and accurately match photographic reference material.
- You must be able to work well within a team environment and take direction from Supervisors as appropriate.
- A familiarity with Mudbox and Zbrush are a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and good knowledge of English (verbal and written). Any other language is a plus.
